What I've seen is folks get used to one simulator, and because of familiarity, that's what they stick with, even if someone shows up with a "better" product, that's cheaper, faster, w/e. Note: The chapter 2 simulation uses this run as the starting point. In V8.6, a new contact dryer model and enhanced indirect drying in the convective dryer model were introduced as well as enhanced particle size definition in the reactor models. 4 From the Aspen Plus menu bar, select File Exit. Enhancements to Solids Modeling in Aspen Plus Breakthrough solids modelling capabilities were introduced with V8.0, and have continually been upgraded with subsequent releases, V8.2 and V8.4. Aspen Plus has solids handling capabilities in it, I believe, and it has an "automatic recycle" capability whereas in HYSYS you have to add them manually. Aspen Plus saves the simulation as the Aspen Plus Document file, Solid1.apw, in your default working directory (displayed in the Save in field). So as far as accuracy goes, you're *probably* going to get the same answers out of both programs. I think they both use the same thermo version 7.1 of Aspen's suite of tools allows HYSYS to start using the property packages from Aspen Plus. AspenTech has a very large market share, despite the fact that (in the case of HYSYS, in my opinion) is very user unfriendly. The HYSYS user interface is horrid, based on my experience with other simulators.
